The Zero Dollar Show

In contrast to its location inside an internationally financed mall and entertainment complex - Melbourne Central - The Zero Dollar Show cost nothing.....zero.
The field of art has a special relationship with the notion of theft. Famous art heists! Copyright infringement! And so to build upon this special relationship, 18 artists make up The Zero Dollar Show and each piece of art cost zero dollars to make. They found, they stole, and they exchanged favours for transport.

The West Wing, Lvl 2
Melbourne Central (next to Gloria Jean's)

Ninja Assasin

I'm begining to think that Hollywood are getting their act together once again in terms of the action genre. For years I have slated the big wigs over in the states that have tailored their action films to kids and idiots, but finally I think we have passed the era of 'Batman and Robin' to a more entertaining selection of films to which this is no exception. I think we can all thank the recession for this, no money = more movie watching. The plot...

Raizo (Rain) is one of the deadliest assassins in the world. Taken from the streets as a child, he was transformed into a trained killer by the Ozunu Clan, a secret society whose very existence is considered a myth. But haunted by the merciless execution of his friend by the Clan, Raizo breaks free from them...and vanishes. Now he waits, preparing to exact his revenge. In Berlin, Europol agent Mika Coretti (Naomie Harris) has stumbled upon a money trail linking several political murders to an underground network of untraceable assassins from the Far East. Defying the orders of her superior, Ryan Maslow (Ben Miles), Mika digs into top secret agency files to learn the truth behind the murders. Her investigation makes her a target, and the Ozunu Clan sends a team of killers, led by the lethal Takeshi (Rick Yune), to silence her forever. Raizo saves Mika from her attackers, but he knows that the Clan will not rest until they are both eliminated. Now, entangled in a deadly game of cat and mouse through the streets of Europe, Raizo and Mika must trust one another if they hope to survive...and finally bring down the elusive Ozunu Clan.Release Date: November 25, 2009

Until The Light Takes Us

Following on from the last post, Until The Light Takes Us is a new documentary featuring key founders of the Black Metal genre. Set to be released later on this year, fans of this music will not want to miss it. Featuring interviews with Varg Vikernes of the one man band Burzum, Gylve Nagell, Kejetil Haraldstad and film maker Harmony Korine, this feature presents interviews about the murders, arson, through a candid account of a sub-culture immersed in fact/fiction, myth and mystery that spiraled out of control. For the general release date and theatre showings near you, keep an eye on the official website for updates.

Tekkonkincreet

If you haven't seen the anime adaptation to Taiyo Matsumoto’s graphic novel Tekkonkincreet, I suggest you find it as soon as possible and do just that. Brought to the screen by Studio 4C, this version of the popular graphic novel is on of the most beautiful pieces of animation I have seen since....well just since (I'm not a super anime geek, so I'm no authority on this subject).

There is an interview with the CEO of 4C as well as some of the team that worked on the film on the PingMag site available here. Although there is no mention of another anime called Mind Game by the same team, that is also well worth a watch for it's rather leftfield style and story.

So, if like me, you are struggling to come to terms with the recession and have no money to go out and piss your measly earnings up a wall, go and search these gems out. You'll probably find them free on the web, but I strongly suggest buying them as they may well change your life forever (let's just hope they don't try and make a live action version and kill them like they seem to be doing with so many other classics).

Stand up for your rights before it's too late

This is a video that I think everyone should watch it’s a bit on the long side but please don’t let it put you off. This video is a talk given by a very brave lady willing to stand up and talk about all the S*&% going down in America today. Now if you don’t live in America you may not know about what is happing there right now. I’m an American living in the UK and I only get little titbits of what is going on over there when my parents call. So this surprised, disgusted and scared me because the rest of the world has no idea what is happening. And let me tell you if Bush manages to turn America into a closed state or a dictatorship then just you wait because it could happen in other democratic countries. And we all know Bush is more then willing to invade whatever country takes his fancy (he has already managed to invade 2 and he has his eyes set on Iran). So Please, Please, Please watch this all the way through then if you have a blog or somewhere you can post it do so, and if you don’t tell people to come here and watch it. Because everyone needs to know this could happen to your country.

A more lenient London council?

Someone from London sent Wooster Collective this scan of a survey that is currently being conducted amongst local residents by Tower Hamlets (Brick Lane's and most of ESP's) Council.

It looks as if the Council is considering keeping and preserving some of the iconic street art that graces the walls of London's East End. Clearly all of this is a reaction to the growing acceptance of Banksy's work that lead to the Bristol City Council holding a public debate and asking residents to determine the fate of a prominent Banksy piece in Bristol.

It's an interesting approach that certainly shows a shift in how cities are now dealing with the public's growing acceptance of street art. However, if you look closely at the small thumbnail images the Council provides in the questions, you can see a nicely painted door by Eine, followed by a door full of tags. If you ask me, of course tags are gonna be found to be offensive to local residents. They should have showed more murals/pieces instead. A great example of how the government only seems to do things in half-measures.

$98,000,000 SOLD!!!

I can't believe it! Someone or something has gone and bought Davros Hirst's skull-turd from hell!

"The artist’s London gallery, WHITE CUBE, announced today that an unnamed “investment group” has purchased the bauble for the original asking price of $100 million, nearly a month after the unsold piece was removed from display. It has now officially become the most expensive piece of modern art ever sold. The gallery also noted that Hirst retained an ownership stake in the piece and that (surprise!) the gallery planned to re-sell the piece at a later date, at which point the skull will probably break its own sales record."

Stab Proof Hoodies

While teens in America are dealing with the constant threat of gun use in their highschools, us Brits are still more scared of being stabbed as it seems so commonplace within the youth of today. I read in the newspaper yesterday that a teen was using a cash machine in my area (Bethnal Green) and was approached from behind by two men and slashed multiple times across his back and arms. (See Pic above) However, he was luckily wearing a new invention by Bladerunner Ltd., a stab-proof hoodie. The top retails at USD$130 and is lined with Kevlar and could soon be part of school uniform. Kevlar can be spun into ropes and sheets of fabric up to five times stronger than steel and this property can make it fire-resistant too. Testing is underway in select schools in the glorious East-End of London.
This sounds crazy, but it actually makes alot of sense to have these hoodies. I still think a kid is more willing to slash or stab you up on the street rather than shoot you because the consequences if they are caught are so much lighter on knife crime compared to gun crime.

I'm diggin the fresh multiple prints design on the hoodies too!
