YayorNay?

Hunting non-endangered whales:

Simple.. either you agree or you don’t.
Leave your ‘Yay’ or ‘Nay’ comment below by clicking ‘COMMENTS’.

With increasing pressure on Japan to ban it’s scientific ‘research’ and commercial whaling operations, the ESPV team thought we’d throw this one out there for yall to respond to.. The question is, why should hunting non-endangered whales be illegal? Considering that the farming, production and slaughter of cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens and fish is legal?

If you are a meat-lover and have no issues over eating it, how can you be against whaling and animal cruelty in general but not mass-production meat served-up in our supermarkets everyday?

Additionally, if you’re a vegetarian or against animal cruelty – then surely this means you wear no makeup and take no medicines? The two most active industries using animal testing today are the medical and cosmetics industries. Is there any point being vegetarian when you still use cosmetics and medicines that are tested on animals?

So when it comes to hunting non-endangered whales, are you Yay or Nay?

Have Your Say: Michael Jackson R.I.P.

ESPV pays our respects to all-time pop legend Michael Jackson, who has reportedly died in L.A. today from cardiac arrest, aged 50. US media reports someone at the singer’s household called 911 around 12pm and when paramedics arrived shortly after he was not breathing. Whilst some local media is claiming that he is in a coma in a Los Angeles hospital, the L.A. Times and several other reports are confirming he has died. Fans await a statement from his family.

Were you a fan?
Loved by millions since his early years in the Jackson Five, Michael Jackson’s fame and fortune was not without controversy. Charged a number of times for child molestation, the singer had two infamous court cases; one settled in court, one settled out of court (November 2003, USD 20million).
In recent years Jackson’s strange behavior and changing physical looks seemed to fill the headlines along with the artist’s children which, have been shrouded in secrecy by Jackson to protect them from the media.
Many fans claim that the molestation charges were fabricated and that the pop legend deserves our respect. Others however, believe the singer got-off jail time by using his wealth to buy himself out of trouble. Some simply feel that we will never know the truth but we can at lest respect him for his amazing talents and performances.

What do you think?
Are you a fan?
Do you believe Jackson should be remembered as the king of pop for all time?

Have Your Say: To game, or not to game?

Often those who don’t have access to or have properly experienced computer gaming will state that computer games rot the brain, whereas gamers will claim that gaming allows for true escapism. Similar to the age old argument of life with/without TV, is playing computer games overrated and a waste of time? Or can aspects of gaming complement one’s life in a positive manner? Some say kids that grow up playing computer games are better at problem solving, have less stress and are more tech savvy – so long as gaming is done in moderation. Is this true?
Do you game?
Is gaming a waste of time/life?
Do the benefits of gaming out weight the negatives?

Have Your Say: US Gun Control

A recent series of shooting incidents in the US has many people calling for stricter gun control laws and looking to Obama to make the change. This year, in under one month, there has been at least seven separate incidents in which people have been killed as a result of a shooting incident:

April 6, 2009: father shot to death his five children at home in Washington before killing himself, (USA Today).

April 4, 2009: in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: 23 year-old Richard Poplawsk opened fire on officers during a domestic disturbance call Saturday morning, killing three of them, (Yahoo News).

April 3, 2009: Binghamton, N.Y: Jiverly Voong aka Jiverly Wong kills13 people in a shooting rampage inside a New York State immigration services centre, (Countusout Wordpress).

March 29, 2009: Robert Stewart, 45, shot and killed eight people at Pinelake Health and Rehab in Carthage, North Carolina, before a police officers shot him, (Countusout Wordpress).

March 29, 2009: Indian techie Devan Kalathat, 42, shot and killed his two children and three other relatives, then killed himself in an upscale neighbourhood of Santa Clara, California, (Yahoo News).

March 21, 2009: Lovelle Mixon, 26, shot and killed four Oakland, California, police officers after a traffic stop. Mixon was killed in a shootout with SWAT officers, (CNN.com).

March 10, 2009: Michael McLendon, 28, killed 10 people - including his mother, four other relatives, and the wife and child of a local sheriff’s deputy - across two rural Alabama counties. He then killed himself, (CNN.com).

(From the above incidents only) Total shooting incidents in under one month = 7Total people killed including gunman = 40

Many of those in favor of tighter guns laws have claimed that the right to bear arms is over ruling people’s right to live in safety and without fear. Pro gun supporters have claimed that banning certain weapons such as fully automatics would make little real difference, referring to the late Charlton Heston’s comment ‘Guns don’t kill people, people kill people’, a much used quote by the National Rifle Association in America. Many also feel that by banning certain weapons your making it harder for people to depend themselves when an incident arises, and that its better to have a gun and not need it, then to need a gun and not have it.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Should there be tighter guns laws in the US?

Have Your Say: Watchmen

Many comic book fans have rejoiced in the new release film Watchman, which takes after the 1986-87 twelve-issue limited series comic created by writer Alan Moore (V For Vendetta, From Hell), artist Dave Gibbons (Superman: For The Man That Has Everything, 2000 AD), and colorist John Higgins (200 AD).

The Watchmen story takes place in an alternate history United States where superheroes emerged in the 1940s and 1960s, helping the United States to win the Vietnam War. The country is edging closer to a nuclear war with the Soviet Union, freelance costumed vigilantes have been outlawed and most costumed superheroes are in retirement or working for the government. The story focuses on the personal development and struggles of the protagonists as an investigation into the murder of a government sponsored superhero pulls them out of retirement and eventually leads them to confront a plot by one of their own to stave off nuclear war by killing millions of innocent people. (Wikipedia: Watchmen)

Are you a fan?

Have you read the comic?

Will you watch the film?

Is this just another weak attempt to remake a comic story for the mass-market mainstream?

Have Your Say: Vegetarianism – yay or nay?

Aside from proposed health benefits, some climate change scientists are now claiming that people can reduce their carbon footprint more effectively by eating less meat or becoming vegetarians. The amount of energy needed to farm, transport and cook meat is so great that going veg would greatly reduce the worlds emissions.

In a recent documentary by Supreme Master Television, NASA’s top Climatologist Dr. James Hansen claims that saving water, changing light globes and using cars less is not as effective in combating climate change as ‘going veg’.

Do you agree?

If global warming is real, do we all have a responsibility to go veg?

How far would you go to save the plant?
