You Can Help Get Jack Pierce a Star on the Walk of Fame

There is a petition afoot to get Universal's makeup mastermind Jack P. Pierce his own star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. I came across word of the petition on Ain't It Cool News, and considered it important enough to pass along to readers of The Vault of Horror. I'm not sure if any other makeup artists have their own star, but if anyone deserves one, it would have to be Jack Pierce, who worked for Universal for a quarter century, creating some of the most unforgettable characters in motion picture history along the way.

Pierce's incredible body of work includes such films as The Man Who Laughs (1928), Dracula (1931), Frankenstein (1931), White Zombie (1932), The Mummy (1932), The Invisible Man (1933), The Black Cat (1934), Bride of Frankenstein (1935), Werewolf of London (1935), Dracula's Daughter (1936), Son of Frankenstein (1939), The Wolf Man (1941), The Mummy's Tomb (1942), Phantom of the Opera (1943) and Beauty and the Beast (1962):

Frankly, the man probably deserves to be on the Walk of Fame more than some of the actors and actresses already there. So do the right thing and add your name to the petition now!

Klein Bottle House

The Klein Bottle House was designed by McBride Charles Ryan and is located in the town of Rye, just outside Melbourne, Australia.

The house is described by complex shapes and spaces that revolve around a central courtyard with a grand regal staircase that connects all the levels. Dunno if I could actually live in this house but thought it was very progressive in terms of its design.

Julie Ege 1943-2008

We've now lost two former Hammer babes in less than a month's time. Julie Hege, star of Creatures the World Forgot (1971) and The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires (1974), and the studio's most promising starlet of the early '70s, succumbed one week ago after a six-year battle with lung cancer, at the age of 64.

The Norwegian knockout was born Julie Dzuli in Sandnes, Norway. She won the Miss Norway pageant at age 18 and competed for Miss Universe, and later became one of the earliest Penthouse Pets. She began acting in the late 1960s, both in her native Norway and in the United Kingdom, appearing in the infamous George Lazenby Bond flick On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969).

With her killer body, she was a natural for the kind of sex farces that were popular in Britain in the 1970s, and such comedies make up a large part of her work. The rest is composed of horror films like Craze (1974) with Jack Palance and The Mutations (1974) with Donald Pleasance and Tom "Dr. Who" Baker.

When Hammer got a hold of her in 1971, they made her the star of their One Million Years BC knock-off Creatures the World Forgot. Apparently, the idea was to make her the U.K.'s answer to Racquel Welch, because Hammer invested a great deal in her, dubbing her "The New Sex Symbol of the '70s" and sending her on a whirlwind promotional tour that included two appearances on The Tonight Show.

Nevertheless, the movie was not one of Hammer's successes. They paired her with Peter Cushing three years later in The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires, but she never became the star they intended her to be. In 1976, she retired from acting altogether and became a registered nurse in Oslo.

Ege survived breast cancer in the 1980s, but 15 years later would be diagnosed with the lung cancer that eventually took her life.

REVEALED: Two-Face in All His Horrific Glory!

Could this be the fate of District Attorney Harvey Dent in July's highly anticipated Batman sequel, The Dark Knight? It might not be a horror movie, but with a character who looks like that, it's sure to have some crossover appeal!
ComicBookResources.com set the web on fire by leaking this shot of Aaron Eckhart in full-on Two-Face mode. Might it be a fake? That's the question many are pondering--but Warner Bros. certainly lent some extra credibility to the pic when they made CBR take it down. I certainly hope this is the real thing. Two-Face needs to be a frightening, nightmarish character--not the clown Tommy Lee Jones portrayed in Batman Forever.

Fullmetal Alchemist the movie

Photobucket
Fullmetal Alchemist the movie: Conqueror of Shamballa premiered in Japan on July 23 2005 and is a continuation of the TV series. The story is set two years after the series, and fallows Edward Elric after he is dragged into a different world through the gate, and ends up in Munich Germany in 1923. In this reality (Earth) he can no longer use his alchemical powers. He has spent the past two years researching rocketry with a young man named Alphons Heiderich (who looks like his own brother). Earth is a parallel world to Amestris (Ed’s home world) and because of this ED encounters may familiar faces. After rescusing a gypsy woman named Noa who looks like Rose Ed is thrown back on the path to get him back home.

Back in Amestris Alphonse Elric continues looking for a way to get him his brother back when Wrath takes him back into the underground city. Ed and Al are able to open the gate from both sides and Ed is able to get back to Amestris. He is fallowed by Dietlinde Eckhart who has been working for the Thule Society; on a way to get to the legendary 'Shamballa' in order to gain access to power and weapons beyond belief. When Diethinde crosses through the gate she gets alchemical powers and decides to destroy everything she sees. At this point everyone from the “old gang” joins up and tries to stop her.

I felt that this movie could have been better and was a bit of a let down. It felt as if the movie was slapped together to end the series. If the creators had spent a little more time and possibly made 2 movies then this had the possibility of being really good. I loved the series and was looking forward to this movie so I had very high expectations and I think others like me will feel the same. The movie was not bad enough for me to say give it a miss but I would say don’t get your hopes up.

Alien Toy by Medicom

This cute caricatured version of Alien is set for a release in the 3rd Quarter of 2008. This monster is produced by Medicom and distributed by Sideshow. Known as the Alien Vinyl Collectible Doll, this one should be a very popular edition for many toy collectors out there, including myself.

Hellboy Special FX Co. to Create New Creature from the Black Lagoon

There has been serious talk of a Creature from the Black Lagoon remake for a little while now, and although the project was put on hold thanks to the writers' strike, it is now officially back on track according to a scoop at ShockTillYouDrop.com. Director Breck Eisner even mentioned the specific designer and effects house that is working on the brand new Gill Man.

It will be Spectral Motion, the company which did creature/make-up effects for films such as Hellboy, Fantastic Four and X-Men: The Last Stand that will be bringing us the new Creature. In fact, Eisner says they've already built their first maquette, based on a design created by Mark McCreery, whose previous body of work includes designing the Penguin for Batman Returns, Davey Jones for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Ghost Rider, Ang Lee's Hulk, and the reimagined Universal monsters for Van Helsing.

Eisner reports that the authentic Amazon locations have already been scouted, he himself is polishing up the screenplay, and McCreery's design is "very faithful to the original, but updated." The director is striving to keep the remake tonally similar to the original as well, while also retooling it to scare today's audiences as much as it scared them in 1954. It's expected to be a 2009 summer flick, so expect there to be a little more action as well, although the picture will remain a horror movie, and will not be transformed into a full-tilt action vehicle the way The Mummy was a decade ago.

I can remember a new Creature from the Black Lagoon being in the works for at least 20 years now--in fact, I believe John Carpenter was originally attached to it. Much like the Wolf Man, this is a Universal reboot I'm keeping my eye on.
